While it's not an arcade game, it's so cool we decided on checking it out anyway. From 1987 it's Hudson Soft's Shooting Watch!

This handy little gizmo tracks the amount of button presses you can do within 10 seconds. Players in Japan used this to build up their skills in shooting games like Galaga and Star Soldier.

The Shooting Watch was re-released in a limited edition 10,000 unit run and you can pick yours up at import sites like NCXS.com and eBay as well.

  • I saw this gadget and the guy you mentioned on an episode of Retro Center cx (A Japanese retro game show) on here.

  • Yeah, and they pulled it. But you can still find it on some other video sites. Check our favorites, I found a video of Takahashi-Mejin showing off his 16 shot skill.

  • @cheetah672 the ds buttons are like turbo switches lol, on the kotaku site they have a little famicom button mock up game that works like a shooting watch, i use it on my ps3 browser till my shooting watch arrives, anyways my niece has the one for her ds and shes gotten near 127 a few times but literally struggles to get past 95 on my ps3, my record on the ps is 120 so im really curious how ill do with the shooting watch

  • Just placed an order for my Shooting Watch earlier today. I've been playing Shooting Watch DS for a little while, but I heard it's not the same unless you have the real unit. My record's only a paltry 114 shots, but I'm hoping to attain Meijin's legendary 16-Shot skills, maybe more if I can still feel my arm xD

  • Never knew about this little gadget. Pretty cool stuff. I'll have to go order one myself.
