Professor Fred Hollows April 9 1929- 10 February 1993.
Fred Hollows, founder and inspiration for The Fred Hollows Foundation, was a New Zealand born eye surgeon who worked tirelessly to help restore the miracle of sight to cataract-blind people in developing countries. Thanks to Fred, more than one million people have had their sight restored, over 750 eye surgeons have been trained in modern cataract surgery and two world class intraocular lens factories have been built in Eritrea and Nepal. Fred Hollows has been recognised as one of New Zealand's great heroes- find out more by watching this video clip. Copyright The Fred Hollows Foundation, Visionary Film and TV, and TV3. New Zealand.

I know where he comes from & am proud he snubbed his nose at receiving the Order of Australia. Where he was born is of no consequence & pales in comparrison to his work & subsequent foundation, that shares information that sets the human spirit free, right across the world. He was a hero to the world & is my personal favourite.
A truly inspirational human being!
You can be proud!
