This is a rare animated version of "The Snow Queen," which I believe hails from the early 1980s. I have not been able to find out much about it, but from the style, I'm assuming that it is Japanese anime dubbed into English. As far as I know, it has never been released on VHS or DVD, and I do not believe it is available to purchase or view elsewhere.

***If you are the copyright owner, please notify me, and I will remove the video immediately. I have uploaded it only to preserve what seems to be a very rare cartoon, and to share this work of animation with the rest of the world.

  • Why does the poster assume this is Japanese?, this is a basic old style english Cartoon, Not Japanese. The Japanese Anime version of this is of a much better quality than this junk. Look it up, I've already found it on youtube.

  • I wasn't sure when I first uploaded the video, but it has been confirmed that this is indeed Japanese. The cartoon comes from Toei Animation, and it was released as part of their "World's Greatest Fairy Tales" series. You can see other episodes from the same series here on YouTube.

  • Man, I haven't seen these Jappy old fairy tale cartoons in ages! I used to have a VHS of Cinderella, The Ugly Duckling and The Red Shoes that was like this. Also, my elementary school had a 16mm copy of Aladdin. I think there were ones that were made in the 70s and ones that were made later in the 80s that were shown on Nick Jr. when I was a kid. I think these cartoons were partially responsible for my appreciation of anime later on. I'm curious to see them in their original Japanese format.

  • I have "Cinderella," "The Ugly Ducking" and "The Red Shoes." It's on a VHS called "Fairy Tale Classics" put out by Children's Video Library in the early 80s. I've been contemplating uploading one or two of the stories. It's amazing how twisted "The Red Shoes" is from an adult perspective!

  • @AnnainCA Can you upload "The Ugly Duckling" then, please?

  • Yes, but I don't have those cartoons transferred to DVD, so it might take a month or two. Keep an eye on my channel, and I'm sure I'll get it up eventually.

  • I remember watching this on the Disney channel a long time ago

  • @Lyricalmystification as confirmed below, it is indeed Japanese animated. As soon as the skull 8= at 0:44, you can see the style elements ;-) Ha ha... includes original commercials too. Transformers! ( with their rebranded Robotech / Macross Valkyrie )

  • Kain, you now had tetanous

  • lmao that horny boy

  • in my talent academy we did this play but only up to when kay gets his heart melted and turmns evil.

  • Ewoks!!! lol

  • @AnnainCA Oh please please please upload "The Red Shoes"...."Cinderella" and "Ugly Duckling" have been on You Tube for ages...I found "Red Shoes" but it was in Spanish. It is the most bizarre story, even as watered down as the "Fairy Tale Classics" makes it, it's still eerie. The town in a panic over this girl's cursed slippers, the creepy soldier that encourages her to dance, the death and then the angel at the end and it's like what just happened here?

  • Wouldn't it be funny if the kid from the "Digger Dan" commercial grew up to be the biggest 'mo, lol!

  • Can someone tell me exact name of this cartoon and where i can download it

  • I sure Hope that Disney makes THEIR version of this as one of their animated features as they had planned to do!!
