Makayla Lynn - covering Train's "Drops of Jupiter" - 10 years old

I love it when Makayla sneaks my camera away and surprises me with a new cover song. Here she is at 10 years old singing and playing Train's Drops of Jupiter. This is one of only a few songs you have ever seen her cover that is not country. It is however, one of her Dad's favorite songs. (and she learned it from hearing Taylor Swift covering it of course!)

Like everything there is always good and bad... the good is that her new Taylor guitar has such a huge sound that it will be perfect for anywhere she plays, the bad news... we are learning the hard way that she needs to use a microphone even when she plays it acoustic. While the guitar playing is not quite perfect (although mighty good for one take)... knowing she locked herself into a bedroom and put this much heart and soul into a song is PRICELESS!!!

Hi Makayla,

Really sorry I haven't been back in a while. That certainly is a nice Taylor guitar, much better that what I had at your age. Songs like this are about telling a story and you're a very good story teller and musician/singer. I enjoyed your secluded performance meant to be a surprise and it sounds like it's something you love to do from time to time.

@2malinos Thank you Perry. I really love my guitar too! I am really working hard on using facial expressions when I am singing. It is something I learn alot about in voice lessons. Plus I am in a musical theatre class at an upcoming festival so I really have to be able to tell a story!

Woaw ! I just can't believe she's only 10 ! She sounds so much older ! But it's definitely a compliment 'cause she's already really technical in her singing and she's amazing ! I love it ! =D

And of course I'm also in love with the Taylor's guitar =D

@danika155 I have been taking voice lessons for about 2.5 years and I have never had a guitar lesson. I got my first guitar 2 years ago and haven't put it down since.
