Globalization entails both risks and rewards, drawbacks and benefits. In particular, globalized processes of production, as well as local processes of production designed for global markets have extensive ecological footprints. Critics argue that we should be re-tooling production - local processes for local markets, the 100 mile diet, and so on. Yet, the world's largest firms, few states, and probably a minority of consumers show little interest in scaling back.
