Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach's "Painted From Memory" is simply .one of the most heart-breaking songs about lost love you will ever hear. The combination of Bacharach's melody, and Costello's lyrics and gut-wrenching singing is like a punch in the chest. A real orchestra, swelling and receding along with my emotions—my God. By the time I got home I was exhausted. But it was a good exhaustion. I needed it. That song released me and I'll never forget it.

I love this song. Can you hear the refrain of it in the soundtrack for "The Artist"? You can actually sing the lyric at times. Way too close for comfort I think.

My first love was over 40 years ago. She broke my heart. I went on and lived my life, married the love of my life, had many children and have been very fortunate in life. I heard this song 12 years or so ago for the first time. I immediately thought of that young girl who broke my heart when I was only a young boy. That is how powerful this song is to me.

I dove from Los Angeles to Boston in four days with this CD playing and never took it out of the machine for the whole cross country trip. A classic for sure. A very important piece of music for all real music lovers.

What an unlikely combination, and yet they blend amazingly well. This is my favorite romantic album of all time. The genius involved in this venture is absolutely astounding. What an astounding and unique recording. The whole CD is flawless.
