Seriously! This has got to be one of the best pop singles of 1984. Not exactly rare, Felt nevertheless deserves a spot on this channel for falling in the "generally unknown" category. I just discovered this band and it's turning into one of those slightly obsessive love affairs that one can have with music from time to time. This single is from my favorite chapter in the bands history. Taken from the bands third album - The Strange Idols Pattern and Other Short Stories - Sunlight Bathed The Golden Glow was released in July 1984. I was 11 that summer. If only I'd heard this song...

Cherry Red Records recently reissued all ten Felt albums plus three compilation albums and a DVD. My advice: C H E C K I T O U T !!!

  • @sharck968 Actually I wondered if Robert Smith wasn't influenced by this song to compose Just Like Heaven.

  • @TheAce102 I think Felt came earlier than Smiths.

  • hard to believe these guys were hardcore punks at school in Birmingham.....great band

  • The Smiths and Felt are the most influential and the best jangle pop bands so st*u now and enjoy the music.

  • For those too young to have been there (or too lazy to do their research), Felt did arrive earlier on the indie scene before the Smiths, and Maurice Deebank preceded Johnny Marr as a key 80s guitar hero.

I love the Smiths, but Felt deserve their due credit!

  • @gerry6668 The Smiths came earlier than this song, but later than Felt as a band. The first Felt album was around 1981-82 and the style had been established there. The Smiths' first single was in 83.

  • @emsctemsct you're wrong! Smiths came little early.

  • The single version with women chorus is also lovely and superb. nothing more to say before i press play again

  • the vocal patterns of the verses sound a lot like "my face is on fire."

  • There's actually 5 versions. This, the instrumental version "Sunlight Strings", thealbum version on "The Strange Idols Pattern and Other Short Stories", the Blanco Y Negro demo version (on the "Gold Mine Trash" compilation and the "Primitive Painters" reissue) and an early 1983 Deebank-less demo that only featured on French 7" test pressings of "Penelope Tree" - this demo has different lyrics)

  • I've loved this wonderful pop song in the 80's - thanks for uploading this fine memory :-)
