Transportation in 2: Orange County Celebrates Dump the Pump Week!

Organized by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the Dump the Pump campaign encourages commuters nationwide to explore other means of transportation including bus, rail and ridesharing for the week of June 13 - 17. The effort also helps promote options to reduce pollution and traffic congestion on the nation's roads and highways.

"The Dump the Pump week campaign aims to inform Orange County commuters that other transportation options are available," OCTA Board Chair Patricia Bates said. "If people take time to explore other commuting alternatives, people can beat the high gas prices and traffic on our freeways."

Last year, Americans took 10.2 billion trips on public transportation. As a result, 4.2 billion gallons of fuel have been saved along with 78 million commuting hours.

During Dump the Pump Week, commuters can visit the OCTA website and make a pledge to dump the pump. Each person making a pledge automatically will be entered into a drawing for prizes such as Starbucks and American Express gift cards, movie tickets, Oakley sunglasses and others.

OCTA will be at the Anaheim Metrolink / Amtrak Station at 6 a.m. on Thursday morning to greet morning commuters and hand out free giveaways.
