I guess this sounds funny in the same way as us saying HOLY SHIT would sound funny for a Japanese. Nevertheless, this guy is in distress, and probably watching his house as it is being washed away, maybe his boat, and most of his existence. It's a very tragic and moving moment, and no one should make fun of it. Even though we are used to talking shit and making fun of things here on youtube. This might be the moment where we should just not.
