Jason Griggs was a deaf barista at my Starbucks. Due to the proximity of our location to the CBC offices in Vancouver, many members of the staff got to know Jason on a day to day basis and did this story on him. Unfortunately, Jason is no longer employed at Starbucks due to issues unrelated to his impairment.

  • I am very proud of him what he done!! Because I am deaf and I was a former employee of starbucks coffee. It was in Atlanta 2000 to 2001, Rye Brook 2005 to 2006, and Manhattan (TSQ) 2007 to 2009.

I am wondering Does he become a shift supervisor ?? If yes

Then Will SB request him to see his doctor for reasonable accommodation ??

    Thanks

  • I am proud of him, too, as well as proud for you! It's not an easy job and doing it with a disability makes it harder. Thanks for the comment.

As for Jason becoming as shift, I can really only say that there are currently no plans to promote him. That may change in the future, under the best circumstances for both him and for Starbucks, however. I hope it happens if that's something he wants and is capable of doing...

  • Isn't it interesting that there is no captioning! HUM pretty dumb!

  • My deaf coworker was provided a captioned version of this, as well as the store recieving it's own copy. This was recorded from the evening news directly as broadcasted by my husband using a video camera aimed at the tv.

  • I agree! It is also dumb that they didn't provide Jason with an interpreter for the interview.

  • It takes time to set up an interpreter. I believe that the interview wasn't planned that far in advance. I actually helped to set it up while my boss was in town and I remember the lady on the phone telling me they had decided on it that morning. Within the phone call from the CBC to get permission and actual filming, was about 24 hours.

  • This is why the world is becoming a shittier place by the minute. Instead of recognizing the normal people, society helps cripples and dipshits. So superior genetical people get pushed away, and we get more and more of this kind.

  • hey man i commented and i wasnt tryin to be mean, i was just saying

  • that was amazing... hope starbucks can hire more deaf people to work anywhere here in vancouver and richmond, B.C. area :)

  • Hey --- that's my old Starbucks :-)
