Joe's a hilarious character. I watched him being interviewed on the TV some years ago.
He was, I think, wearing a cowboy hat, and remarked that being a tenor and singing in a high voice didn't seem very 'macho' to him, but laughed that women loved it, couldn't hear enough of it. So, he was more than happy with that! Of course, everyone likes a good song sung by a great tenor.

My father had a great voice and used to sing this my uncle and aunt were both on the stage so I guess the great voice he had ran in the family as i went on to do the same oh good memories

I remember my Mom singing this to me as a lullaby. I feel sentimental and have a lump in my throat. It is so LOVELY! xx

Thank you so very much for this,it brings back fond memories of my grandfather who sang it to his wife,my maternal grandmother. His name was Charles Wilson, who owned a bookshop in Liverpool. His wife, Kathleen, was involved with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She sang it once to me, after his sad passing,it still has the power to make me cry.
reminds me of my dad singing this song in the pub saturday night
