@Monalisacat37 I wouldn't say it was Rap music that did it. IMO a lot of the early hip/hop was very much in tune with the "soul" of soul music. Stuff like African Bam..and so forth were as moving as most soud music. Around 85 it became just "fun". in 91' Rap took a turn for the worst.
I think the real problem is that with all the multimedial stuff the idea of what could sell became more important in music than was was "incredible". Looks and flare replaced the soul of music.

I dunno, it's as if the soul of music retreated with the advent of rap. The soul of music is out there, hiding in creases and crevasses for those who appreciate her.

I am watching the video of this great super song. It was without a doubt, one of the best songs of the 1980's. Definetly in the top ten of rock songs ! This song has haunted me over the years in a very good way. I often think of it when I am driving or going grocery shopping or just sitting down relaxing. For a moment it makes me wish that I lived in Dream Academy's northern town. It sounds very peaceful and fun. A great song !
