@meltonmowbray2003 Well spotted. I thought the same when I viewed this wonderful series again about 8 years ago. I can still remember the excitement of finally seeing Fletch and Godber on the 'outside' 30 odd years ago. Ironically, my father's birthday also falls on the 11th September - giving me no excuse to forget! Be seeing you.
Probably the best sit-com (Porridge and Going Straight) ever made! Both David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst cut their teeth with Ronnie Barker. David worked with Barker on a number of projects including of course Open All Hours. Nicholas plays Fletch's son Raymond in the second episode of Going Straight. Ironically Fletcher went BACK to prison after this series when Barker and the rest of the gang made the movie Porridge. 3 series, 2 Xmas specials, one spin-off series and one movie. MARVELOUS!!!
@Songsmirth Ahh... now I know what a 'Carillon' is... Sounds like fun; that's the kind of instrument one could REALLY annoy the neighbours with! (Just kidding!) Hey, if you'd like to continue this conversation somewhere more appropriate, you could email my nickname AT a flightless bird that's as dead as a.... with the usual dot com and a 'dot au' too... Get it? or you could visit my blog and leave a comment at Astyagesdotwordpressdotcom. I'll get back to you, I promise...
@theseustoo Interesting. Carillon. I spelled it wrong. :( It's bells in a tower. There's several vids on here so you can see. You play curling up your fist and hitting wooden pegs like the feet pedals of an organ. In the winter up here you have to go to each bell and loosen them as they can freeze in place. In the open air too so we should get a medal! lol Nothing like it though. I wasn't very good and wish I could further my lessons./ So sorry about your bro's. Can't imagine. Songs
@Songsmirth I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I know how that feels as I lost two of my brothers within three months, the same year that John Lennon died (and that felt like losing another brother too!) That was about thirty years ago... it still doesn't seem right, or fair... What is a 'caralon'? A busker is someone who plays music in the streets (or the London Underground) for a living; I play guitar and sing a bit. I've always loved music!
@theseustoo Yes I know. My elder brother died last week. Heart attack. Still trying to take it in. Anyway, what is a, 'busker?" As it happens, I took opera singing lessons in college. Played the caralon but not for long. Hard to put one in your pocket to practice on. Makes it difficult when the whole college can hear your mistakes. lol Organ, piano and guitar. Just love music. :) Songs
@thebeeskl Oh yes! They certainly did! Crikey! You know you're getting old when you find yourself remembering 'the good old days' more often than you're enjoying the present ones!
