  • but at the end of the day the people that provide us services can do so under any condition ie the tv channel doesnt have to provide us with programs and it only does so if we're prepared to watch adverts. it's this tracking online i dont really like at all. invasion of privacy.

  • say if a company is selling merchandise (merchandise that goes with an anime like a deathnote pencil set or whatever) that is the advert that should come up if any when you're watching deathnote or atleast anime. for things like insurance which everyone is aware of perhaps there should be forced zero advertising because if we want it we know it exists we can look it up in a directory we dont need teh advertisement.food adverts that look so delicious should be alloewd though.

  • @pkemrin essentially they have to make it so that we want to see adverts and that we only see them when we want to. reducing the amount of adverts would obviously make us more keen to see them as we see them less and our curiosity increases as to what purchases are out there. right now they they track yoru google searches and bombard you, 90% of my ads online are the same ultralase ad since my consulation. i should be allowed to turn it off. adverts inline with content are ok i think. continued.

  • @maxgunn555 Yea, something like that. I'm not sure what would be the most effective reduction though. I mean, maybe reduce ads to something like one per show, maybe reduce billboards to one for every 3-5 miles of road, make junkmail illegal. Stuff like that. As I said, not exactly sure what the best advertising to allow would be, but it needs to be way less than it is now.

And yea, maybe making it so that people can't advertise to you unless you're looking for what they're advertising.

  • @pkemrin hmmm good point. like we have to seek them a little bit.

  • @maxgunn555 Well, I'm saying people would be engaged again if advertising stopped for a while and then started again smaller. In the past advertising was much more effective because it wasn't everywhere and people didn't have to tune out dozens of ads just to get through the day.

If the government just regulates advertising some so that it isn't everywhere all the time, I think the ads that remain will become much more effective.

  • @pkemrin i agree it's a government matter. there is such a thing called passive or permisive advertising which is basically where you search for something and it comes up because you wanted it to. but obviously people wouldnt be engaged again by stoping advertising.

  • @maxgunn555 Well businesses could stop advertising as much on their own, but that wouldn't be very profitable for them. Especially since it could put them at a disadvantage vs the companies that keep advertising.

Perhaps the government could step in and place some regulations to prevent over advertising.

After all, the problem isn't advertising. The problem is over advertising. If the government puts some extra rules in place to prevent over advertising the problem could be solved.

  • @pkemrin what is your actual plan. it can't surely be just stop advertising. what would you do instead?

  • I suspect the best way to get people engaged again is to stop advertising so much.

0 People like being bombarded with advertisements to the point of saturation.
