@KendrixTermina I think the name change was to represent her change in personality. In 2.0, she seems not as hostile to people, and she was the only one who I noticed a significant change in.

It made sense to me after I read the description of what was going on, on the Wikipedia page.

Something about how every living thing has it's own AT field that separates it's soul from others. The Seele organization wanted humans to merge as one and become a super-being. Rei had become one with Adam and was the catalyst for breaking-down the AT fileds, but Shinji rejected the process because he had finally accepted his individuality.
