This is the amazing Riverdance performing as the Interval Act at Eurovision 1994, featuring the phenomenal Michael Flatley and Jean Butler and featuring the superb vocal talents of Anúna.

  • This was the highest point for Eurovision. Ever since, it has gone downhill.

  • Ahhh... back before Michael was so full of himself. Jean didn't get nearly the credit she deserved and still deserves. She choreographed a good majority of 'Riverdance'!

  • riverdance or stomp? hmmmmm i pick both

  • this makes every irish soul soar

  • The irish have mastered the art of drumming with their feet

  • @dubcindub15 ya man 100% Flatley ruins it for me

  • I turned on just to watch the usual embarrassing interlude - I didn't even know where it was being staged. And then this happened. And I thought "this is bloody amazing". And I still do.

Eurovision has had the odd moment since then (Lordi, for daring to be different, for example) but this is the best ever. Trust the Irish to get culture right for once.

  • @dubcindub15 Yeah Flatley and his Musically Inserted Taps.........

  • I actually remember this being broadcast quite well. The 90s were a great time, before we lost ourselves in the greed of the boom and the apathy of the bust.

  • Michael Flatley is just a posing flamenco dancer unless he's beside Jean Butler.

Oh, 5.51 cameraman trying to keep all dancing feet and bouncing boobies in shot.....good boy cameraman, I salute you sir!

  • I still remember this moment and always will. Was just about to walk out the door thinking the local pipe band were about to start and then the first note was sung and i was glued to the screen from that moment, mouth open with pure awe. The shots of the feet on the floor brought out the "what the hell" Irish in me to just get up and bang your feet to the beat regardless of whether I had a clue of what I was doing! and have been doing so ever since!!!!

  • Are people seriously talking about the Vikings? Ha. The Vikings never really invaded Ireland, not in the traditional sense. Yes they founded many of Irelands cities and they pillaged and plundered and all that. But the truth is that they settled rather than invaded. Invasion implies subjugation, but the Vikings, after their initial raids, basically became immigrants and inter-married with the Irish. Most of Ireland was still ruled by Irish kings. Also the Irish aren't really Celts.
