I'm 12 now and in the Civil Air Patrol. Here I am taking my first orientation flight with Major Stefan Sylvander.

This revised video has been reviewed by Capt George Supan
Public Affairs Officer Group 3, Minnesota Wing

Excellence piece! Looks like Forbes enjoyed his first flight. Good to see our young, new troops getting into the air so quickly at the St Croix Squadron. Appreciate the news release. Will be looking for future "Forbes' Adventures!!" ;-)
Welcome to the CAP Family!!!

  • I'm 15 and interested in join CAP to help me get into the Air Force Academy. Were you allowed to pilot the plane? Because I thought you had to be 17. Please respond because I way to be a pilot and wa wondering if I could fly planes in CAP until I graduate from highschool.

  • @Dutycallsladders Hey there! Thanks for watching my video! The FAA does not require a minimum age to start learning how to fly in the left seat! In fact, I started taking my flight lessons at my local airport at the age of 10. Civil Air Patrol is not a flight school, although it offers many aerospace experiences and education. CAP would greatly benefit you if you plan on attending the Air Force Academy!

  • OMG MY NEIGHBOR Is in this video (other kid)

  • its 5 powered and 5 glider for your over all stay in CAP. im in the winchester composite squadron mer-va-040 and i love it!

  • @rs4life32 It's different at each squadron. At my squadron we get a powered O-flight with each promotion but glider O-flights are not as readily available to us. So there's no specific number that I know of. (:

  • @andrew143100 No you dont. When you join the CIVIL AIR PATROL you get 5 powered flights and 4 glider.

  • @A1FORC3 My guess is, of course! But I'm not there yet! This was an orientation flight where we get to fly for awhile; an O-flight comes with every promotion.

  • @andrew143100 Is it fun being a pilot in the CAP?

  • @A1FORC3 If you attend basic encampment, you can go to NCSA (National Cadet Special Activities). There are many of these where most of which are aviation themed such as powered and glider flight academy. Here is where you may solo on the aircraft. You would have to continue your training towards your license individually at a local flight school. Thanks for your interest and watching my video!

  • How do you become a pilot in The CAP?
