I have a suspicion this isn't JUST about a struggle, way back in the mists of past millenia, for who owned the soul and spirit of Ireland, right? We're seeing a metaphor for Norrthern Ireland here, perchance, non-surrendering Orange Ulster v. the 32-county republic?

Just picked up on the lines "The day will come and the dawn will break - the daybreak's here". And my suspicious Welsh soul knows enough Irish to know "tiochfaid a'r la" when it's put into English right under my nose like that!
