The Outdoor GeekGal, and friends, Jeff Strickland and George Weymouth, sponsored a Kids' Beginning Bushcraft activity during the March 2009 St. Vincent Open House. Local and out-of state youth were introduced to the rudiments of orienteering and bushcraft, through experiential learning, in this idyllic barrier island setting. They also had an opportunity to try their "hands" at a craft practiced by the first visitors to St. Vincent Island: Native American-style, coil method pottery construction. The Refuge Open House was supported in part, by a grant from the Franklin County Tourist Development Council. Hope you enjoy these video highlights.
Yes, and I was amazed at how these mostly eight year olds, just seemed to lap it right up, especially the firemaking demonstration. One Father told us he thought his son would remember the day for the rest of his life!

Hey, it looks like all the young up and coming bushcrafters had a nice time with all the activities that were taught. Looks like a great day for all!
