Even God's creatures respect the Rock of the Church. There are over a million priests in the service of humanity, and less than 1% of them have been confirmed as offenders. The numbers in OTHER places are FAR more staggering. This is not excusable, and the Church is moving to eradicate the filth. The Church is the Body, but the Body is made of people, and people are ALL sinners. This is an article of faith of the Church.

Source? BTW, it's never quite clear to me what this statistic--and I've seen various versions of it--is supposed to convey.

@ProfMTH At recent conference on sexual abuse we learned that the Catholic priests have no more higher percentage than the Protestants, Hindus and several other religions... for some reason Islam was not covered... but anyway the highest percentage was with the NEA. Hope this helps.

Moreover, it's not quite clear to me how things are 'help[ed]" by the fact--assuming, arguendo, that it is a fact--that the rate of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church is equal to the rates within Protestantism, the Hindu community, and other religious institutions. Doesn't sound very "salt of the earth" to me. Finally, do Protestants, Hindus, and other religious institutions have the history of centralized cover-ups that Catholics have?
