  • One of the things I liked about SpaceVidCast was the quality of the videos. What happened this week? It's like I'm watching the show through cling-wrap...

  • @Anamnesia YouTube is still compressing. Wait for the HD version and it should be clear.

  • Ever wonder what the 17 US Astronauts that lost their lives for the space program and our country would say about the suspension of the US manned space flight program?

They would be devastated that they lost their lives for nothing. I'm sure Gus Grissom would have some choice words..

Our space program survived Loss of life, technical problems, and aging spacecraft, but it could not survive Obama and his social engineering agenda.

    all very sad..

  • yay chat room.

Nasa and all other government space agencies should be research and exploration based , NASA should go for the next big thing, build a big spaceship that is designed to fly around the orbit, ion drives ahoy

  • so thay have the abletiy to get paylode and people to the moon?

and if thay could ween we land would the land be mine or thers?

  • You mean it couldn't survive Bush and his criminal buddies. You're the kind of fool who gives out about water damage when the firemen save your house from burning down.

  • China, ESA, JAXA, maybe the Russians and Indians.

  • Yeah right, get back to the fifties you paranoid wierdo.

  • We Need A NASA Driven Manned Space Program. Our NATIONAL SECURITY Is At Stake. The Nation That Pushes Forward With Manned Space, WILL Be The Leader In Technology In All Areas. Yes, Let's Allow Private Industry To Compete But Our Manned Space Program Is Our LIFE INSURANCE POLICY To Our National Defense!!!

    1) Better than no abortion system like at the shuttles and I don't think it was that useless.

    2) I don't think that those modifications would have been cheaper than developing a 5 segment SRB and you would have needed Orion etc for both designs. The operation costs of the Ares 1 would have also been lower because you can recover the SRB.

    3) It is expensive for Moon or Mars missions, thats right. But if you want to go to the ISS a heavy lifter would have way to high operation costs.

  • The Ares I was always a bad idea.

    1) You can't shut off solid boosters. If the crew had to abort , the capsule could have flown through the engine exhaust and doomed the crew.

    2) The Delta IV and Altas V were in the same category as the Ares I. With some modification, they could have done the same thing.

    3) Having two launch vehicles owned by NASA is expensive.

  • Why does everyone think that Ares 1 was a bad idea? Especially with the ISS in the sky until 2020 it would have been very good to have a launcher that has low operation costs and is human-rated for the crew-rotatio-missions. Or does NASA want to depend on the Russians for 10 more years?

btw: Chris answered the orbiter question absolutely right ;)
