  • Actually, the trees were origami -- but they were "composite" origami, meaning made from multiple sheets (each branch a separate sheet). Composite origami was much more common before about the 1980s, but it still has its uses (especially when the director says, "I want to be able to film between the branches."

Linda Mihara (co-owner of Paper Tree) and I worked for about 3 weeks total, with an extremely talented team of model-makers. Everything started as origami, but there was some CG help.

  • Great commercial until that american dude starts talking.

  • the dragon is impresionant

  • Yes, they asked me to design and fold the dragon after I returned; it took about two days of solid folding, and it looked pretty much just like that. The one I folded was actually brown; they changed the color in the process of animating it.

  • yeah... we all went out and got tree-tattoos after that one, hahaha just kidding ;-)

so... is that red dragon "foldable"?.. doesn't look like it, but judging from your work, I wouldn't be surprised.

  • Yup, this is me. Hey, I show pictures of you tree-folders when I show my slide slow of the "making of"! As I recall, the tree team folded well over a hundred trees (a thousand folded bits), right?

  • hey........ is this Mr. Origami? sire looks like it: "origamilang"? LOL

  • yeah.. the ones on the road with the homes: big round ones? I worked on the forest.. witch really wasn't origami.
