Through various different filmic processes the sea is deconstructed, its myths unraveled and brought to the surface. The actual manipulation of film by hand gives rise to a new aesthetic vernacular; a filmic language that relies not on words or their etymology, but on sensations, memories, true feeling. The notion of sea as uncharted territory, a mythic land of wonder and amazement is contested. Perhaps rendered obsolete in a world of fact? Masculine ideals, brought upon by childhood notions of the maritime, become abstract tokens, images lost in a haze of nostalgia. Social constructs reversed, turned upside down on its head as we splash out of the water into oblivion. Memories erased, fleeting and out of touch as we evaporate into the white. And so we dream of blue streaks and green flashes. A splash of cyan that washes over the veil hiding the sea, dancing along clear gulfs.
