The King of the Zombies is a horror comedy from 1941. It portrays a group of three who crash land on an island on the south coast of America, only to find that it is inhabited by a sinster Austrian doctor called Dr. Mikhail Sangre and a bunch of zombies.

The role of the leading man is played by John Archer, but the definitive star of the film is the black comedian Mantan Moreland, who portrays his manservant. The role of Dr Sangre was offered to both Bela Lugosi and Peter Lorre, but as they both turned it down, the villain is played by the far less known but experienced veteran Henry Victor (who seems to be doing his best Lugosi-impersonation).

The script is actually an outright attack on Nazi Germany, but since it was made before the attack on Pearl Harbour, when many censors were still pro-Germany, neither Germany or the nazis are mentioned. As with many similar comedies of the time, the racially coloured jokes are numerous. The film was directed by Jean Yarbrough.
