Herbert James Draper
English Victorian Neoclassical painter.
Born : 1863 - Died : 1920
Herbert James Draper was a late follower of the Pre-Raphaelites and the Classicists whose paintings are often similar to those of John William Waterhouse, featuring beautiful innocent-looking girls with long dark hair. His work also shows the influence of Lord Leighton and Burne-Jones.

  • I personally love his "Lamia" and "Pot Pourri"...Whereas Lamia being my most beloved coz of its dark theme, all angelic and godly... yet i love pot pourrie for being exact opposite...Any idea where its currently? The only info i have been able to find is from artrenewal org which says Lamia is public collection and pot pourri as private...

  • @shrynakesavan ...I thought Pot Pourri is at the Tate Gallery in London

  • Do you know the story of day and dawnstar

  • Dont know the story...?

I only know the painting Day and the Dawnstar....The painting shows Apollo, the God of the Sun ( also the god of art, music and poetry) reaching out to kiss the lips of the frail Dawnstar, who at that moment, overwhelmed by his radiance, expires.

  • Im glad you like it !

Wow, its a privilege to see his artworks LIVE ....enjoyed !!

  • I realy have no words for your wonderful compositions! You touched my soul and my heart!

Thank you for sharing with us the light of this graet person!

  • Thanks Shirleey♥

  • @yakusaorama It's boring and she needs to know that. This video isn't to talk like that, it's to just look at a good British artist who could go toe to toe with the great French and Italians before him. That's all. And here I thought Japanese people and I would get along. I love sushi.

  • great,lovely,big video,thanks dear friend,all the best,good week end

  • I love Draper. "Ulysses and the Sirens" (at about 3:49) is my favorite by him.

  • Does anyone knows a really good informational site of Herbert James Draper and his painting of Odyssey and the Sirens?

    Thanks allot!!
