This is fucking ridiculous, of course it was penciled first! Do you have any fucking idea how hard it is to draw something like that with a MARKER?! And don't even get me started on drawing from memory, cuz that's just impossible. Of course they used a photo reference. Show me you could do it better yourself without a photo and without doing it in pencil first, and then I'll believe that your comment actually makes sense.
