Yothann: The Boy With The Afro

This is a revised version of my final project for Animation Studio 1 at Northeastern University. This is the process that went into completing this project.
1. After brainstorming different story lines for the project, I decided on making a short clip of a character being chased through a field by a UFO
2. A storyboard with a color scheme and specific camera descriptions was created in order to help me visual how the final animation would look
3. Multiple character sketches were made until I found a suitable one for my character's design
4. These sketches were imported into the program Maya, and I began modeling the basic shape of my character.
5. Once I was happy with the character, I then had to do the same for the UFO.
6. UV textures (basically outside layer: skin, clothes, hair, etc etc) had to be created for the character and the UFO. Green is my favorite color, so this would be the main color for the character's clothing.
7. Rigging the model (a process that allows the character to be animated) was the next step in this process. Also probably the most stressful step for this project. The first time rigging is always the worst time rigging...
8. Once the character rig was complete, it was then time to animate the project. All of the animation was created in Maya.
9. Rendering the scene in Maya took hours... It was a 940 frame animation, and each frame took about 20 or so seconds to render. You do the math... It took a while. Perfect time to take a nap
10. I knew I had made a ton of mistakes involving my character's model and rig, so I had to edit a ton of the frames in Photoshop so that then would look "somewhat" natural. I maybe fixed 800+ frames... This also took forever, a two day process.
11. When I was happy with how each frame looked, it was time to import these files into After Effects as a "Targa Sequence". This would take all of the frames and compile them into a .mov file
12. Once I had the .mov file, it was time to add a few visual effects to my animation, such as the UFO's ray blasts and abduction scene
13. Exporting this file from After Effects went a lot faster than the rendering in Maya. However, this new file was about 2.77 GB large. I used a video compressor program named "Handbrake" to convert this file into a 11.5 MB .m4v file, while still retaining all of the image quality from the original file.
14. Using iMovie, I created the beginning and ending sequences to the video (The title and the credits)
15. Finally, I brought those video files and the .m4v file into Final Cut Pro. I then imported all of the audio files I found online to use in the animation.
16. After a couple editing techniques, the final product was complete and ready to be uploaded to Youtube...
An extremely lengthy process for a semester long project.
