Watch the entire "The Buddha" online until April 22, 2010 at http://to.pbs.org/bCkv2s Two and a half millennia ago, a new religion was born, generated from the ideas of a single man. Buddha never claimed to be God or his emissary on earth. He said only that he was a human who had found a kind of serenity that others could find too. His life, His journey, His Awakening. • @Ocean3589 I,am a Buddhist and i can respect Hinduism, Namaste my friend. peace to all beings

  • @polishdread The Buddha was never a 600 pound man, the person you are referring to is a Chinese folkloric deity named Budai ( AKA Fat Buddha in English speaking countries)

  • What can a 600 pound man teach others about self-control?

  • good

  • @TheTamanglakola Do you really think The Buddah care about being from one place or the other ? This can of reaction is somehow inopportune.

  • Thank u bps

    He's my hero

  • My first reaction to the "renunciation" segment ( with Buddha's foray into asceticism) , was to remember the line from the pixies' song "caribou": "...this human form, where I was born, I now repent...".

  • WHAT THE HELL??? Buddha was a prince of Nepal,,, not India!!! while he may have lived his life later and then died in India and this is a true fact, no arguements about that,,, it is also true that he was born in Nepal and to a royal family of Nepal... hence prince of Nepal,,, not India!!! get your facts right!!!

  • I am hindu,but can respect buddhism.

  • Buddha wasn't an Indian! He was a Nepali. He was born in Nepal, not in India! He went to India to meditate and got enlightenment in Gaya of present day India. He then started to preach people. SHAME ON YOU PBS!!! YOU DON'T KNOW THE FACT!!!!
