Perhaps Congress and Congressman Chris Murphy are correct on this one. The president HAS the tools he needs to get the wiretaps he needs. What is holding this bill up is the blanket liability sought by the telecommunications company who would provide the information the president seeks without having to go to the courts for a warrant each time. Are these companies above the law? Should they be unaccountable to those they serve (us)? Should they not be allowed to be sued under ANY circumstances?

what the Republicans want is amnesty for the telecoms, and, by extension, Bush.
Democrats are ready to vote to keep us safe from terrorists, but not to protect lawbreakers from justice.
