Fort Worth Fatal Accident I-820 and I-35 3/16/09

Fort Worth Fatal Accident I-820 and I-35 3/16/09. Driver of the PT Cruiser crossed over quickly not wanting to take an exit to I-35W North and clipped a car that caused the PT Cruiser to cross the median and hit the white pickup truck. The PT Cruiser driver most likely died on impact, they had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the drive out. Driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital, but news reports say was not seriously hurt.

I was the first camera on scene, but the stations all later showed up. I only went as I was in my car coming back from getting gas and it was close enough to get to during rush hour traffic. I myself in the past have almost been hit at this interchange by someone doing the same. The freeway splits to the right and left to go north or south on I-35W in Fort Worth. This is the most dangerous stretch of freeway in Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, the NE I-820 between I-35W and 183/121 split.

In this area when there is a fatal accident the whole highway is shut down to protect investigators from rubberneckers.

So are you trying to say I was wrong? The freeway was not shut down as the accident was in the median and not affecting traffic flow. This was a fatal accident and just because they did not close the freeway does not mean it was not. I provided a link in the description to a WFAA news report with the details of the accident.

I just got in a wreck with my pt Friday nite. Rolled it down a hill. 4 of us in the car. 3 walked away fine. My brother was sent to the hospital, he only broke his jaw, eye bone and fractured his wrist. That all happened from the tree we hit. Dang car flipped end over end 3 times.... I can't believe we were all fine. That's a pretty good little car....

@NEWSSTRINGER i think shutting down so lanes is pretty standard thru out the US when there is a fatal. here in Southern Calif...our freeways don't have grassy medians so when an accident is fatal all but one lane is closed..the open lane is the one furthest from the activity..if the crash is multi-vehicle and multi-lane, then all lanes will be shut for a period of time or the "shoulder lane" may be used but it all depends on the situation and activity involved.

if people would just quit rushing and pay attention while driving. if you know your exit is near, merge on over..if you can't wait til the next exit..it's that simple. is it worth dying for...apparently it was for this guy/girl. i have no pity for this kinds of stupid drivers. they pretty much as for it. glad the truck driver is ok.

well, it looks to me like it is a Caterpillar 621F scraper... too bad that PT clipped that car and hit that chevrolet..if it had been nailed by a Ford you would need that truck to scrape it off the pavement ;)
