Sharmistha Sen - sitar - Raga Chhaya Nat - 8.13.08

This is a short clip of sitar virtuoso, Smt. Sharmistha Sen, doyen of the Senia Gharana, playing Raga Chhaya Nat at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago on 8/13/08. She performed with her nephew, Rahul Neuman, a sitar wizard in his own right and student of Ustad Shujaat Khan. Sharmistha Sen carries on the tradition of Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan and Prof. D.T. Joshi of the Etawah Gharana. Accompanying them is Maninder Singh on the tabla. This rendition is inspired by a vocal composition of Ustad Munawar Ali Khan of the Patiala Gharana.

This is great, I was there in the front row also, just about three tables to your left. I just started playing sitar myself a couple of months ago and its so wonderful. I'm curious, do you know the second raga that was performed that night? The first was Bageshree and this was her solo encore, what was the second they play? I couldn't hear her when she said it sadly but it was lovely as well. Thanks for sharing.
