Original song is about (and singer Isa Kremer is from) city named Belz (Bălţi, Balti, Beltz, Belzy, Belts, Beltsy, Бельцы) in Moldova. Not Ukraine or Poland.

@UweaVilli Because it's German spoken by the Jews of Eastern Europe. That's why it's more or less the same language. Read the wikipedia-article on Yiddish and you'll get more information.

What makes his accent horrible? The singer is I believe from Moldova/Bessarabia, so his accent is naturally going to be different than from a Yiddish speaker from Vilna, Warsaw, Krakow, Kiev or Budapest, where each place has its own unique sounding Yiddish, among many others.

@Luster55 I agree with Balkanissimo. Although many, if not most, people believe the song to be about a city in the western Ukraine, scholars say it really references the town in the former Bessarabia (now Moldova) - Balti (pronounced "Beltz").

@zeesenboot - Belz is small town in the formerly named province of Galicia. Belz is the Yiddish representation of Belzec (the name one can find on a map of that area (today located in the polity of Ukraine. Famous for the seat of Belzer Chassidim (now in Jerusalem, Israel) as well as the Nazi established Belzec extermination camp
