Shop Class host, Keith Flippen, demonstrates the next steps in the accent bench project. Learn how to attach the bottom, dividers, seat and arms in this video.
First, start by remeasuring the inside of the base. Use those measurements to cut the bottom panel to size on the table saw. Then, attach the bottom panel to the bottom supports with glue and brads.
After the bottom panel is in place, you can attach the storage dividers. Use glue and nails to attach the dividers to the bottom, upper front rail and the middle back rail.
Now you are ready to add the bench seat. Cut a 3/4 by 2 1/4 inch notch with a jig saw in the two front corners of the seat so it fits around the front stiles. Then attach the seat to the upper end rails, upper front rail and the dividers with glue and nails.
Finally, you will add the arms. Cut the arm pieces to length and width. Attach to the front stiles with glue and nails after you check that they are level. Then attach the arms to the back stiles with glue and pocket hole screws.
To complete the look, attach nosing to the front edges of each divider and the front edge of the seat with glue and brads.
