According to Michael Horowitz it is. His recently published article in Computerworld bashes Microsoft pretty hard for interface changes from XP to Vista, and Office. I disagree. What do you think? Distributed by Tubemogul.

  • Ask yourself: How "secure" is it to click an OK-button when you are elevating rights...

When users see an OK-button and no input box asking for pass, they will assume it is safe to click OK to get on. They do not learn security that way, and they will never understand it either.

My bet is, almost every Linux user knows about the security model for Linux. Because it is taught by the OS itself from the beginning. And here it is not possible to give root access without pass.

  • They were not trying to secure the system. UAC is not "secure".

The problem was - and is - that Windows programmers (like the users) do not know shit about security. When they program, they are logged in as admin, and their programs/games will be relying on logging in as admin to function.

So, to compete with Linux security (which Microsoft can only dream of), MS tried to force the programmers to use an everyday account, so their users could do the same.. MS made UAC annoying for that reason.

  • Xp looked like it was designed by Fisher Price. I liked Vista's U.I. a lot more. And it was more attractive too.

I agree with what you said about the ribbon in Office. I liked the interface with the older versions.

  • The ribbon interface is a rip off of KDE Linux...

  • I agree on all points. I also like the new interface.

  • yes, went downhill for a while and now its going UP !!!!

  • I think Microsoft is moving in the right direction, very slowly. They took a few steps back with Vista but I think Windows 7 may be some better.
