Homemade boiler , low pressure . Double action engine , its has a power stroke when the piston is going up and when its going down.

The engine is a PM Research oscillating steam engine , in this video with the homemade boiler , the boiler was soldered together so I'm not willing to do high pressure . Plan are to heat the boiler with solar , using a semi/not perfect parabolic Dish Network satelite dish covered with emergency blanket .

  • I would like to know were you got it. At my job i work on stream reciprocating pumps and it would cool to have one at home! don't need it just want it!

Like you said these engines have power on one side or the other at all times. A little known fact steam engines make there most h.p. at stall.

    thanks for sharing with us

  • I got this one at a local steam show, I have been lookin at littel steamers but alot of them need machining , not this model , just stick it together.

I didnt need it , but man I like to see how stuff works.

  • This one was made by PM Research Inc , in NY, but there are a few different companys that make model steam engines.

  • this two stroke you speak of is callad a DUAL ACTION steam engine

  • i found this on ebay for 65$

  • Its called a double action engine .

  • I guess its a 1 or single stroke engine.

  • Thats the thing , its not a 2 stroke. There is a power stroke on the way up and a power stroke on the way down.

I'll make a video to show , it has 2 inlets and 2 outlets , when tha piston is kicked to one side , the top hole is the in , when the piston kicks to the other side the top hole is now a outlet.

  • I thought if every downstroke was a powerstroke, then it's effectively a two-stroke engine?

It would be fairly easy to build one of these, you would need a piston with an opening at the top of it's case and another opening at the bottom to let the steam out at the bottom of the stroke.

I really want to build a sterling engine from scratch, it's just finding the time. Too many projects!

  • its not a 2 stroke , it has a power stroke every time the piston moves .

I have a few nitro rc engines that I may do what your talking about.
