Using the page from a Thelonious Monk "fake book" as a reference I tried transcribing a recording of "Ask Me Now" from the album Solo Monk. That original recording can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JZ7Ws2ArXo&playnext_from=TL&videos=DY...

  • Nice Soulful job .. Did Monk use so much sustain pedal..?

  • @Doumbeck Generally he doesn't use the pedals but it depends on the piece. And I've heard just about everything.

  • @MCalixte89 it doesn´t have to be a clone of the original song, tha´s what music is about, to put something of yourself into your or others songs

  • youre playing the notes but your note playing it the way monk did. if youre going to play it note for note than you need to keep listening to how he played it. for example, monk did not use the sustain pedal that much in the song. and you kind have to slap and/or hit the keys in the way he did to get that feeling and touch. its not easy but jut listen to the original more closely and youll learn a lot. but you did a good job
