1973 Giro d'Italia

Directed by Jorgen Leth, who also directed Sunday in Hell and numerous other experimental documentaries.

Perhaps the most classic era, featuring Gimondi, Merckx, Ritter, Motta, Moser, and of course the "temperamental" climber Jose Manuel Fuente!

  • 2:30. did he say they drink beer during the race?

  • LOL yeah. The translation fails in some spots, like when the mechanic is removing the bottom bracket shell and he says "the hub is removed."

  • beautiful footage:) thanks

  • Beer, especially German wheat beer is supposed to be good for re-hydration. Not a good idea on the bike, but not so bad post ride.

  • So happy. It looks like fun, doesn't it? Yeah, until you try it.Then, the pain of the hills or high tempo sets in. Just trying to hold a wheel when the pack strings out makes one hope their heart stay in their chest, and doesn't burst out! That's when wheels get touched, and you end up on the floor! Stay at the front, if you can.
