Jack Greasley, Mari Product Manager, and Bill Collis, CEO of The Foundry, talk to FX Guide's Mike Seymour and show of Mari. Mari is a brand new 3D texture painting tool from The Foundry. Originally developed at Weta Digital to handle the massively complex, highly detailed look development work demanded by Avatar, Mari was designed as a full 3D paint tool with a responsiveness and feature-set that puts even the best dedicated 2D paint systems to shame. Mari is extremely scalable, coping easily with an obsessive level of detail literally tens of thousands of textures quickly and elegantly. How does Mari differ from competitors on the market? See for yourself.

  • Yea we just got Mari here at work, first day on it actually. From what I got from Jack (guy speaking about Mari, and good guy I met at Siggraph) is that Mari doesnt handle UV's or in this case patches. You can try using other channels to blend the paints together like layers but I myself am still trying to figure that out. So far so good though. Very stable.

  • Wow looks like Zbrush and Mudbox has a new competitor.

  • Hi,

I am just started to learn Mari recently. I have a lot of questions.

I would like to know if anyone Mari user is here can share your experience about Mari with me ?

I thought the patches in Mari is kinda cool, but I haven't figured out how can I create the patches in Mari.

Also, once I bake the paint, how can I erase the paint I already did..

    Thank you.

    cheers,

    Kiki

  • Finaly a proper more sophisticated version of Bodypaint! without the bugs!! and some extra bells and whistles!

  • This software is a combination between Zbrush and Bodypaint, but it maybe better than both on the texturing part, can't wait for a release!!!

  • very very nice.

  • Amazing!, can't wait!.

  • Never used bodypaint before, but this is one hell of cool software. Waiting for public beta release!
