They are laughing because it's supposed to be campy with the soft rays and mist. It's a parody of all the sappy songs back then. 1969 was uber sappy, dramatic (great) songs. They were pretty cute here.

i love the comedy go between of the time. it shows humour in their own actions and performances, a light hearted show, though it is delightful and sumptuous to watch today

Laughing is all to do with use of song for some temporary (no easy way for householder to record a television program in those days) entertainment. . Especially such a thing as a medely. The television production company would have to pay in today's money, 250 thousand pounds, to use each song-in-full, with no interfeeing laughter. . The engenious use of laughter interferrence, gets around those cost factors. . Cheers. from, del-boy.

This is hilarious. My experience in beginning sound and video editing suggests that an un-related, and probably originally unintended, second sound track with laughter has been over-dubbed onto this master tape, and went out without the editor realizing it since the laughter doesnt occur until a 30 seconds into the set by which time an editor doing a check would end. Never the less it is way funny. And this is a great song and I hope there's another version of this particular cover. Cheers.
