The proposal happened on a Saturday afternoon, on July 17, 2010. A couple of days earlier, Josh told Michelle that he was taking her somewhere for a surprise belated birthday present on Saturday (the previous gift was a Broadway show that got cancelled). While driving into Manhattan, Michelle had no idea what Josh had in store for her that day. They found a nice parking spot and proceeded to walk towards and into Central Park. Josh secretly had arranged for two friends to be hiding out at specified locations in order to photograph and videotape the whole thing. Josh had been secretly sending text messages to his friends throughout the afternoon to update them as to their location/status. After Josh sent the final text message, one of his friends placed a single red rose at the exact spot on the ground that Josh had previously picked out. As Josh and Michelle approached that spot, Josh told Michelle that he in fact did not actually have a birthday present for her. Josh then picked up the rose, handed it to Michelle, and got down on his left knee and asked Michelle to spend the rest of her life with him. She said yes, and the crowd in Central Park began clapping and taking pictures. The surprise was not over, however. After Josh showed Michelle the cameras that filmed the entire event, Josh suggested that they go eat at the restaurant that they had their first date at on Valentine's Day of 2008. When they arrived at the restaurant, Michelle was shocked to see that her entire family was there to greet and congratulate the newly engaged couple.
