Yes, in a small plane with the prop and engine right in front of you the plane will be noisier. Plus air coming in the vents adds to it. I tried a few times to record myself in flight in a 182, and the best way I found was to put a lav mic inside the ear cup of the headset. It actually worked quite well because it picked up ATC and in-cockpit conversation.
