  • Atonal...not serial or rightly dodecaphonic. It was written prior to his decade of thought that ended up with the 12 tone idea(1924-1934).

  • The visuals have some good sequences, but overall impose themselves and are distracting...I rather see the orchestra and use my imagination.

  • This is only the end of the 3rd movement and the 4th & 5th movement. Not 2 of 2. This piece is Schoenbergs best piece in my opinion. It is the culmintion of hisExpressionist style.

  • Schoenberg's music is very beautiful. Just persevere with it and you will reap the rewards over and over again.

  • To whoever posted this up - can you please give us an indication of the timings for where the individual movements start before you post ?!?!?! How am I supposed to find the 4th movement ?

  • This is such exciting music - Piece No.1 is exhilarating. I always look forward to hearing another piece by A.S. that I haven't heard before. I am always amazed and totally engrossed. Does anyone else feel like this about Schoenberg? Share ideas...

  • It is intended to sound different.

  • I think, if anything, you would be improving your musical ear. If you can listen to this and coherently pick apart each instrument and nuance that is written, then most other forms of music (i.e. tonal) can easily be dissected and analyzed.

  • This is the first time listiening to atonal music or whatever this is.... I wonder if im messing up my musical ear by listening to this. I know that when we hear music our brain cross references is with everthing we have ever heard and most of the time that will determine weather we like it or not (especialy if the melody or whatever is linked to a good memory)if someone who has only heard atonal music would think that tonal classic style music would sound weird (although that wouldnt happen)

  • this isn't dodecaphonic. the last piece in op. 23 was schoenberg's first 12 tone piece. this is atonal....not the same as 12 tone.
