Why would you keep a school that cant function right.John dewey so terrible that i would choose new utrecht over john dewey. It computer science program would be good to go but the school is crappy as fuck.Crime activity, full of students that do poorly and dont give a fuck.It like hell. They are not going change and will not.So just remove it would save alot of innocent teenagers that wanna do good.Put the ones that are doing poorly should be put in a special school
The only reason JDHS has gone down tremendously (quickly too!) is because of the kids. Yes, when Laffayette closed that affected Dewey too, the other thing is, is the incoming freshman. The administration should enforce stricter acceptances, reviewing the conduct of the student and the academic progress more.
JDHS probably has some of the best teachers in NYC. Dewey is different from your typical NYC HS. It would be terrible if it closed.

...in those kids. Teachers too! Many of them need to be fired. The school has round-the-clock guards and several cop cars surrounding the school that makes it look like a penitentiary. Is that the kind of school parents would want to send their children to? I understand it's for safety, but there's a fine line between campus safety and SWAT members on every corner of the school. Dewey isn't even in a dangerous neighborhood. So I disagree. The DOE won't do anything, so it should close down.
There's no point in saving a school if nothing is going to change. I transferred OUT of Dewey in 2009 mainly because of the rowdy students; they are the root of many of the problems Dewey is facing right now. Unless drastic changes are made, it's pointless to keep a school like that running with all the Lafayette kids and unmotivated kids crawling around, distracting the good students who actually want to be there and learn. The principal and DOE need to step up and enforce some discipline...
@MsRealist000 it would the same as closing down the school, if even half or few students graduated from John Dewey HS like my professor once said "we are already in depression" cuz the DOE won't wastes their budget for that. in addtional, the video that he doing perhaps would save the school, however, you need to demonstrate us that dewey is good school and not as bad as we see it.
Dewey is a good school no doubt about that. BUT honestly the principle needs to go & they should stop accepting incoming freshmans to deal with the students who havent gradguated on time, those being the ones that are contibuting to deweys low gradguation rate. the funding needs to be increased if dewey has any chance of surviving. those idiots who want to close it down fail to realize that you cant just close a school down with out giving it the funding and the chance to turn it self around.

We can't close, Dewey is good. They just need to seriously see how the school really is with the teachers and some of the kids.
