With the Jajouka musicians, Brian was convinced he'd discovered the square root of the Blues he loved so much. Brian recorded these musicians in the late 60s and the project really didn't gain much notice. Jagger revisted this music for this particular track.
The band weren't happy with what they brought back from Morocco and whilst recording went to see The Drummers of Burundi and DouDou N'Diaye Rose (two large African percussion groups) play live in London. They wanted the Drummers of Burundi to record but they weren't available so the bulk of percussion, including the fast bits, was contributed by another African group, Farafina.
