@randomtoa Yes, it could. In fact, there are some bolt-action rifles that are like that. They're usually of unconventional design, though. The Mechem NTW is a realworld example of a side-fed bolt-action rifle (anti-material rifle, specifically).
The in-game weapon concept looks like it might have been partially based on the Schmidt Rubin K31 (a Swiss rifle), judging by the straight-pull bolt with barrel-shaped knob. The ridged metal handguard over the forearm has a distinctly German look to it.

Please tell me there are still gas masks and de-activatable night vision goggles, those things combined are just so fragging awesome. I liked it because it kind of looked like you were wearing a glasses type style gas mask. So far it looks bad ass though.
Just a thought. Could the prisoner be a "dark one"?

A straight-pull bolt-action that uses side-fed mags! Not only is it original, it's also mechanically feasible!
