It was filmed on film, not tape, so there is plenty of resolution available if they wanted to make a blu ray version. Check out the blurays of 60s Bond films or Blade Runner to see just how astonishingly good and detailed old film can look when rescanned.
In fact, Twin Peaks was one of the first tv shows to use film instead of tape and was a huge influence and factor on the shift in the 90s from cheapo production values and videotape to a more cinematic look for television shows.

Not to troll or anything, but will it really "look great in HD"? It wasn't filmed in HD, and basically looks like vhs quality at times. Wouldn't HD just pronounce those shortcomings further?
