The Young Matildas have caused the Asian Football Confederation to fine Australia for the mass brawl during their match in China earlier this week. The fine was formally imposed on the Football Federation Australia, which will now launch an investigation and interview coaches, players and management from the Under-19s women's championship.

The Asian Football Confederation decided on the fine after backroom personnel were also involved in a brawl, following China's a 2-1 win in a group B matched at Hankou Sport Culture Stadium last Monday.

The brawl erupted after the final whistle, shortly after Australian defender Jessica Seaman was sent off on the stroke of fulltime. An Australian player fell to the ground as the players were leaving the pitch and Young Matildas captain Tameka Butt reportedly sprinted across the field and confronted (attacked) Chinese players before the incident escalated into a brawl.

The Australians were subsequently pelted with (a few) water bottles as they left the field....." http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/

But perhaps the real reason for the utterly unwarranted totally irresponsible aggression by the Australian team was actually that they had LOST decisively to China that they were out of the competition.....

The Asian Women's Under-19 Championship witnessed shocking scenes in Wuhan on Monday night as the Australia team was pelted with bottles by a highly-charged crowd following a mass brawl at the end of China's match against the Young Matildas.

China won the Group B encounter 2-1 to secure a place in the semi-finals of the competition but had its back to the wall as the Australians pushed for an equaliser.

Australia was also denied a penalty when Kyah Simon was brought down two yards inside the area and a free-kick outside was awarded. To compound its frustration, centre-back Jessica Seaman was sent off on the stroke of full-time.....

Australia coach Alen Stajcic was furious with what had transpired..... "We've prepared for 12 months, to have an embarrassing sporting event take place like that in China. That's not sport," he said.

"Sport is played by two equal teams battling for sporting supremacy, not that kind of behaviour. On the field, off the field, it's not good enough."

"I'd be embarrassed if I were the host of this event after that game. You all saw what happened out there, it's embarrassing." http://sportal.co.nz/football-news-di...
