Spider mating and post mating dessert for the female

From time to time I have watched golden silk spiders (Nephila) weave and a few times, seen the males. Only recently have I seen some of the male's pre-mating ritual. Saturday, with a video camera, I turned it on for 30 min and by pure luck - captured the pre-mating ritual, mating and post-mating dinner as the female was in hot pursuit of the male - and won.

At first, when the male spider got away, I was thinking, 'yahoo, it escaped!, Five seconds later, I was like 0_o when the female spider pounced. Never saw a spider moving that fast. Made me jump out my seat. Poor little dude. :(

Where's the female? Or where's the male?

The female is the large one - about 8 cm body. The male is the small red guy, about 1 cm body. Don't mess around in a female dominant social system.

The male is about 1/50 the size of the female - smaller target for after mating treat. Cannibalism is a feature of many spiders that mate. For the black widow, the male actually presents himself for dinner. For Nephila (here) he is not so interested in terminating his life
