On the "Space: 1999" promo, the CG super text in Helvetica Medium seems to suggest that WPIX was using the later-generation Vidifont (with more typefaces than the original) at the time.

In the late 70s in New York, I recall a PSA in New York for a certain hospital for children(aired a lot on channels 9 and 11), where the V/O announcer says "please send your donations to(and he gives the hospital's name and address)." At the end of that ad, the splicing pattern looked like a large black tree over a white background. Anyone have that ad? Thanks.
The closest I see to this is the end of a "Henry's Hamburgers(Buffalo, NY)" ad, and at the 1:01 mark of that clip.

15.00 a month WOWWWW!!!! I didnt reallize it was that cheap. Imagine if cable was only 15.00 a month... Hey how many recall the big WHT box in which the audio for WHT programs came out of. CHEEESY!!!

What about other New York area businesses like Railroad Salvage, Pepperality, JGE Furniture("Hey, Jerry, what's the story?"), Beefsteak Charlie's, Hendon and Harrow's Pools, House Of Audio, and last but not least, Crazy Eddie?

I remember this episode, the main "rescue visitor" was played by Stuart Damon, who went on star as Alan Quartermain on ABC-TV's General Hospital for more than 25 years. Thanks for posting!

@17mark1717 Thats in 1979 dollars. 15 bucks in 1979 is the equivalent of 45 bucks today in 2010. And you were getting only the one channel.

My friends older sister had WHTin the lates 70s, and early 80s. She lived in the same apartment building he did, so we were over her apartment alot watching all sorts of movies. Being accustomed to watching heavilly edited and commercial interrupted movies on tv, it stunned me to see movies on tv that werent edited & interrupted by commercials. It was there I got to see the movie Animal House unedited for the first time, complete with nude scenes.
