'Thinking' your crew wants to abduct you, is indeed like a psychotic episode. Actually EXPERIENCING such a thing - real or otherwise - is not. Most scizophrenics don't SEE things, but imagine them - ie, they have crazy ideations, not visuals. Very impressive endurance cycling, however!

An alien abduction is a symbolic message from a higher consciousness. The message is intended to show us the truth about ourselves (why it scares people) in the hope we will repent of what we think we know and search for better answers. Only if we become like little children asking their father questions again can we hope to find enlightenment and freedom from pain. My Space has highestprecision.

I don't know for sure, but it would surprise me if Shermer did not think it possible for life to exist elsewhere in the universe. However, unlike some people, he actually wants some real evidence first.
To just want it and then decide it's true based on wishful thinking is wrong.
